MEERUT: A day after president of Secunderabad Vyapar Udyog Mandal, Sunil Tayal, was shot dead in a crowded market, traders in the town closed down their shops on Saturday in protest and demanded a quick action in the case.
Tayal, who owned a garment store in Chaudhariwada market, was shot dead by bike-borne assailants near his shop around 8pm on Friday.
Panicked shopkeepers shut markets instantly and later called police.
Senior police officers, including SSP Sonia Singh, reached the spot soon after word of the murder reached them.
“Sunil Tayal, the trader who was shot dead on Friday, was involved in a property dispute. Some people wanted him out of the way so they got him murdered. On Friday, around 8pm, they shot him dead in the market near his shop. The accused are currently absconding but we will catch them soon,” said Jitender Kumar, station officer at Secunderabad police station.
“We registered an FIR under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against eight people. We have even identified the eight accused. They are all currently absconding but we are raiding their potential locations and we are confident that we will arrest them soon.”
